Photographic Exhibition ‘Talvi’

Posted on 03/05/2012 by faccadmin in News

‘Talvi’ is a body of work created by Australian born photographer Dan Freene.

The exhibition is from a trip he took with his Finnish wife to her homeland Suomi in the coldest months of winter in 2010. The average temperature was around Minus 21 Degrees C and as an Australian he found Finland to be exceptionally cold, but phenomenally beautiful.

Dan observed that even the most simple of things took on an abstract surreal quality, and fuzed with the soft delicate Arctic light, has created a world that feels like being on another planet. Dan has printed the work large, and has presented the prints beautifully onto cotton rag paper.

“Talvi’ Photographic Exhibition runs 4th to 16th May 2012 at Silverpixel Studio, Unit 1, 39 Phillip Street, Newtown NSW 2042. The studio is open Mon – Fri 4 – 6pm, Sat – Sun 10am – 6pm.

Nokia names Siilasmaa as chairman

Posted on 27/04/2012 by faccadmin in News

NOKIA OYJ nominated entrepreneur Risto Siilasmaa to succeed Jorma Ollila as chairman, signaling that key decisions at the world’s biggest mobile-phone company by handsets deliveries will stay in Finland.

Siilasmaa, 45, is chairman of security software maker F-Secure Oyj, which he founded, and of telephone company Elisa Oyj. Known in Finland as a representative for entrepreneurs and business investors, he joined Nokia’s board in 2008.

Siilasmaa started F-Secure, originally called Data Fellows, in 1988 as a student at the Finnish Technology Institute. The company listed shares on the Helsinki stock exchange in 1999, the last major high-tech company to join the stock exchange in the Nordic country…

Both Nokia and F-Secure are members of the Chamber.

Team Finland Melbourne – Bookings Open

Posted on 02/04/2012 by faccadmin in News

Tickets are now available for the Team Finland Launch in Melbourne, which will be held on 2 May 2012.

Team Finland is an exciting new initiative of the Finnish government. It will change the way Finland and Finnish companies are promoted, both within Finland an abroad.

Team Finland was born out of a review of the way Finland’s external economic relations were being handled in the context of the internationalisation of business carried out last year by a working party chaired by Matti Alahuhta, President and CEO of Kone Corporation.

Their report was presented to Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen, Minister of Economic Affairs Jyri Häkämies and Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb at Finlandia Hall on 19 January 2012. The working party found the current system of trade promotion was siloed and fragmented, and put forward an alternative network-like structure.

Join the FACC, the Embassy of Finland and Finpro at the launch the Team Finland concept in Melbourne. There will be short presentations from the Chamber and Finpro, followed by an official launch by the Finnish Ambassador to Australia, Her Excellency Mrs Maija Lähteenmäki.

Tickets are $80 (members) and $100 (non-members), which includes a a true Danish smörgåsbord meal from the Danish Club. Sponsors and corporate members may take a table of 10 for $720, and invite their customers, suppliers and staff.
